A period of teaching is facilitating time to allow new ideas to emerge. This starts with a sense of something that percolates in my mind for some time before I am ready to start rough sketches and models. There is nothing polished about this, it may be cut up, altered and glued back together several times. I spend a lot of time just looking from every angle. A chair is sculptural, must be ergonomically sound and structurally up to the job. Many things have to come together for this to work in a way that has a sense of completeness with no poor viewing angles, weak spots or discomfort.
